AT1: Dark Alliances by Ben Sanderfer

This is my second time playing this adventure and I remember it being fantastic though I don't remember much of it strangely... Anyway It probably will contain spoilers but I will try to separate them in second part of the post...

Now What I really like about the game is mixing Dragonlance with Forgotten Realms... And it somehow beside being original works very good. I have played trough intro and getting quests part so now I will try to continue with adventure from there...

What I really liked is 2 new moons and adding DL constellations, though I was thinking if it would be possible but... knowing DL I guess. Also intro was great, New Hlontar seems like nice place and I just enjoyed it all... Hope to continue soon.    I wished again that I could make mods like this, having few religions there really felt nice, and NPCs are done great too.

It seems I have not played it... Wich is strange as I remember playing 2nd part...

Now more about it... It is fantastic, town of New Hlontar is so nicely done that it is just amazing... I truly enjoyed it especially NPCs and Dragonlance touch,...it reminds a lot also of GoldBox games and Eye of Beholder which I also have not played that much... Now on to spoilers...

After town adventure continues to north with ruins that are full of goblins and later pirates... I loves this part and dealt with goblins, fav part was Efreet that was in hands of Goblin leader and his misuse of wish spell unintentionally killing all of goblins too... I didn't have trouble with this encounter and also Displacer beast was easy for my party but was so nicely done too, with some goblin notes that my mage translated successfully...

Now to further north, I cleaned up most of the place, half cleaned villa and went to north to wizards academy because there was some ghost of white female wizard... I thought she must have been Dragonlance White wizard and went inside and found female cleric of Lathander which joined party... She was so cool...

After some investigating trough academy, they finally found notes that lead to illusionary wall behind which was female wizard. Inside there was some circle of runes which was needed to be broken for her to be free... I had a bad feeling about it but eventually did it and it turned up that vampire sorceres lured us there to free her, btw I missed right room with some thumping inside...

Then she send us to underground maze below academy with her traps there and older traps that were used for wizard training... Now I am still trapped there, walls are from Eye of Beholder, and all area above and below was so tensed, that I never felt so scared and unsure in FRUA games or maybe in any other Ad&d game....

But I loved it, it was amazing experience... Now I need to ask how to get out on the part of the forum that might be helpful...

I have got stuck in 2nd part of Northern Hlontar, but eventually I loaded saved game and finished it...

It was really great experience, cleaning up goblins and pirates. There was a abandoned mansion which served as a pirate base and I really enjoyed defeating pirates there which was a bit tougher, but after I leveled up my chars and got spells good was possible. I liked how it was done and pirate leader was especially nicely done...

Later I got few more missions and wen to overland map of Moonsea, which was done awesome... Now on to New Phlan... It looks very nice for now, barely entered it...

I decided to skip part with Vampire sorceress... Maybe it was just a lure to remind us of Eye of Beholder games, but I doubt it... probably I can't find some secret door like thing...

But everything went well I really liked fighting pirates...

Now New Phlan... It is done very good but I miss being drawn into it... Not much action there except just visits and going to main mission which is awesome btw... I really liked mix of DL and FR and rock lizards were awesome, I was thinking they are Basilisks...

On to Dragon keep... Everything is just great

Now about adventure in Dragon Keep, it was really interesting and it was best Dragonlance Experience I had till now, though there was not much challenge there, my party was almost 4th level... NPCs and all other little details were great,... I hadn't any problems finishing it...

Then I got back to New Phlan, picked up reward and somehow it seemes I should next visit Zhentil Keep...

Now this was first time me going there, and it was also nice, though it was smaller then it should I guess, but on good size map and all towns around were just greatly done, encounters that introduces things and politics, especialy nearby Hillsfar, Yulash ect... Picked up quest in Zhentil Keep, then of Yulash 

And as I said in previous post, everything seem to be just great, I like it really that somehow art and other things have EoB feel, I even was thinking to redo things, make 3d NPCs, improve already made things with AI ect, I will probably do it... :) just amazing adventure

Now I went to Zhentil Keep, and got few quests to Yulash. All were nice, except that I had to go to vault of Red Plumes, where I fought Guards and after defeating them, I should have key to vault as quest giver gave it to me, but it said there is no key and I went back to Zhentil Keep, but his shop is permanently closed...

Later I got to some mansion below Zhentil Keep of some wealthy family, and started adventure there... and I have been for a week not playing it... already... Need to get back to it. I love how all Moonsea region is there to visit :)

Spoilers ahead:

Finished Crypt, then we went to some town where Navarre (guy that was our companion from start as a contolor for New Hlontar), turned to be ex leader of Red Plumes who did lot of bad things with his group, and eventualy they all have been turned to various races by Tyr and later they fought other Red Plumes defending village and did good... Now this was probably my most favorite part till now, I really liked it all...

Then we went on a mission in some keep to north occupied by Zhents and at the end there were young White dragons, and all were very cool, there was some NPC who was a guide but turned to be Zhentish spy, I relly Liked it.

Later back to New Hlontar they have send us to Yulash Ruims to attend gathering of priests with Priestess of Sune... They were all killed there by Thakissis and later Elmisnter showed up explaining that somehow Toril was moves near to World of Dragonlance, thats why clerical spells were not functioning. Also Bane was involved into all that and we were sent to find their lair...

Now I am in some village and fighting some Red plumes, that are tough... first time I think was defeated few times. Need to win it :)

Finished it, and I have to say that it is probably best adevnture I have ever played ever... I think idea of mixing Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms is just great and everythings was done just great, it reminds me of Secret of the Monkey Island atmosphere and just how it is done, I felt like I played a comic, but story and everything else is really Ad&d at its best, now started AT2 Dark Wizardy and went trough credits realized that those adventures are going for much longer then I expected that is even before I started playing, and that is 94...

Anyway now to moments that are memorable... Spoilers so I will color text white:

I have started to wonder around Moonsea region in order to level up, and fought barbarians in mountains, found a mountain village they raided and found their stolen healing staff do clerics could heal people again. This was very cool episode and I loved it...

There was also some ogre cave which was just a quick series of encounter, but also cool. That NW part was nicely done and I leveled up and went to that village below Zhentil Keep and defeated Red Plumes but there was no temple of Bane...

Later I went to NE and found an Undead town controled by Zhentish Mage and a female Mage... After cleaning the place I went to New Hlontar and then met spies sent to Zhentil Keep that discovered location of temple of Bane. Went there and they told tale of prophecy of Bane but 3 moons were mentioned in it and cleric was unsure if it was happening now as only 2 moons were there. We went back to New Phlan on a mission and Elmister showed up shoing 3rd moon which was black (3 Dragonlance moons). This all were amazing and I just liked it a lot how it was done and story behind it all, reminded me of great Dragonlance epics...

Now New Phlan was interesting to revisit and we met Zhentilars who were looking for an half elf from Krynn. Then group boarded ship to Sokal keep (If it was not Sokol originaly, will have to check it) and on their way found Half Elf who told story about Krynn and great troubles both worlds are going trough, and he joined party...

Then blue dragon showed up and after few times I managed to save party but Half elf got killed... Then we explored ruined Sokal keep amd found lots of Draconians below it. At the end there was a red dragon who was killed by leader of Draconians, some powerful wizard, and after that lots of powerful draconians attacked... I managed to win but lost 3 members of party...

Then he teleported them to Krynn for part 2 (AT2 Dark Wizardy)... I have loaded game just before last fight and exported them to new game...

So it was just amazing, ... I really wanted to improve some things (though probably not possible, I wanted actualy to flash some NPC and make 3d versions of them and places...) and probably to play it more... I have not explored eastern part of the Moonsea at all ect...

Now to second part. I am just glad I have finished it and not sure how I started to play 2nd part before few years and not have finished first...

I have tried AT2 Dark Wizardry, but it was too tough for my group, my figther didn't leveled up...

So I returned to AT1 and tried finishing what I have not done, and that is western part of the map... I liked village with spiders, spider mages were very cool, there was few more villages and I have completed all, except vampire that is in northern part of New Hlontar, because of magical labyrinth, I didn't know how to finish and didnt felt like going back...

But still my characters are mostly Level 5 except Fighter and Wizard which are 6, and I might do some short adventure in between. I Will try again AT2 after I finish AT1 but... I might get defeated again :)
