I think meningful variable names are good. I just don't use them, because i want brevity, and I have written a couple of more DC scripts than most people, so I try to keep my consistent, like "lvl" for level, "tgt" for index of target character, etc. ;) The great thing about GPDL is that we can do it either way, and probably just about any other way of naming variables..

Is there a way to change a player's icon to something not in there already established icon list.  SOmething more dynamic.  For example, i would like to implement a shape shift spell.  I would like to allow the character to select a specific monster to 'look' like from a list (no problems, yet).  I would then like to tell DC that character x is now using the icon from monster y.  Or perhaps a way to change the value of the icon filename.  Is this possible currently?

Something similar to this should be theoretically possible. I don't think anyone has done this yet, and it would not be as dynamic as what you suggest.

Every icon can have N sets of "ready" and "action" poses.

A script sets the icon index of a character to be i:

$SET_CHAR_ICON_INDEX( partyIndex, i );

where

i=1 is the default human icon
i=2 is the icon of monster y(1)
i=3 is the icon of monster y(2)
.
.
.
i=N is the icon of monster y(N-1)

Of course this will only work if you modify all of the default icons to have those extra slots.

Of shoes — and ships — and sealing-wax — of cabbages — and kings —
And why the sea is boiling hot — and whether pigs have wings."

That's the solution I was trying to avoid.

Another question.  To implement this Shape CHange, I have an item.  In the item I have a script for the 'Use' action.  When it is executed, it causes an error saying I don't have a Character Context.  So what contexts are available in that script when it executes?  Also, I tried using the examine event to do the same hoping that might give me a different result.  It just didn't execute.  Any thoughts?

Please disregard this post.  I have figured out what I was doing wrong...and it has nothing to do with changing an icon. I have abandoned that idea!

Would it be possible to have a spell impose a "linger" graphic that sits on top of the target's icon? I suppose the problem with that would be that any transparent part of the linger graphic would allow the icon underneath to show through.
