Hello Dungeon Crafters,

it's been a while, that I made a few posts here.

Back then (2022) I had converted a big red dragon image from the Amiga version of "Champions of Krynn" into a big mosaic artwork with squares of felt.

This was possible, for the vendor had 70 different colors of felt. However, some are very close and hard to differ from afar.

I changed the medium, but not the subject. I found so called Byzantic/Byzantine stones. These are 10 mm by 10 mm by 4-5 mm in size. The best color palette that I found was 27. With that, I was able to create Vala from "Secret of the Silverblades" in the Amiga version of "Pools of Darkness", where she features 23 colors.

Luckily, those stones are cheaper than the felt squares.

With this color palette, the dragon from CoK cannot be done. However, I would like to do a 15 color version from SotSB, if I find anyone interested in acquiring it.

What would also be possible is for example another Vala (I would change two colors for my next try.), Lord Soth, a few other dragons and more.

I would glue them to an 8 mm medium density fiberboard and use a 30 mm aluminum frame with an 8 mm notch, similar to the big felt dragon.

With those images being 88 by 88 pixels in size, this should get a side length of 1 m. Just the gluing takes about 44 hours.

So, in the unlikely event of anyone wanting such an artwork to call his own in the near future and helping me out, contact me via pm.

But anyone is invited to share his opinion.

Here are a few images and videos:

Another case study. The in game combat images of various dragons with 48 × 48 pixels and how they would look as a table.

The table would be about 70 cm × 70 cm × 74 cm in size.

I would either use a glass or epoxy resin above the mosaic stones pixel artwork.

Anyone interested?

Back again with an artwork I call "The Bleeding Red Dragon".

Vala came out to be 890 mm × 895 mm.

I ended up using a 20 mm aluminium frame with a 6 mm medium density fiberboard.

Because of some little differences to be equalized, I tried to use the area of 900 mm × 900 mm within the frame and start with the upper row and the left and right column. So also the gaps are on purpose and I wanted them to fill with resin, which I did, it did not work that well as intended. That's why it is called "The Bleeding Red Dragon" now.

Next time will be "gapless" again. Or maybe in some sort of isles of the same background-size, enforced to fit the whole picture in the end. I am thinking of a bigger picture, like "Knight of Illusion", from the title of Pool of Radiance which would need several boards to be put on. For example 8 × 5 boards with every single one 400 m × 400 mm in size. Making it 3,2 m × 2,0 m large in the end. Hope you get the picture.

At the moment The Bleeding Red Dragon can be purchased if anyone is interested.

However. Here is some material.
